About Tawnya Hartford

  • Why am I am running for city council?
The short answer to this most days is because I am crazy!

The longer and more realistic answer is because I have always had a passion for politics and have always truly believed in community. My entire life has been spent volunteering and participating in various community functions and activities.

Born in January of 1979, in Chatham, Ontario is where my life began. At a young age, my parents instilled the community mindset in me. As role models, they were constantly involved in various committees, boards and events. I followed my parents to tons of events, board meetings and quite enjoyed helping out where ever I could.
Previous to moving to Niagara Falls in 2004, I attended Carleton University and Algonquin College in Ottawa, Ontario, where I learned a lot about politics. I joined a few campaign teams both municipal, provincial and federal for assorted parties and candidates during my time living in Canada’s capital city.

Shortly after graduation, as an employee of Osprey Media, I was offered the option of a transfer to one of the local daily newspapers. I decided on joining the team at the Niagara Falls Review as there was a familiarity to Niagara Falls that made it feel like it could be home.

Moving to Niagara Falls, without knowing anyone was a big chance. Since moving to Niagara Falls in March of 2004, I have been doing what I can to make it feel like home and like the community that I have always wanted to be a part of.

I am extremely proud to be an active member of the Rotary Club of Niagara Falls Sunrise and have been for over 14 years. As a small group, we accomplish many projects together that help so many people both locally and Internationally. Working with others can be complex, but in order to get projects done there must be compromise.
